

- Within casual driving time, you'll find some of America's
finest entertainment, sporting events, historical sites and a host of
other diversions.

- North
- Just 30 minutes north, you can experience the rich heritage of
Historic Halifax, site of the signing of the "Halifax Resolves,"
a document that predates even the Declaration of Independence. While
you are there, enjoy one of the area's many outdoor dramas, "First
For Freedom."
- Travel a bit farther up the interstate (about a 2 hour drive)
to reach beautiful Richmond, Virginia. This state capital is home
to dozens of landmarks from the Confederate War period and is a
mecca for shopping and historic sight-seeing.
- West
- Three of the nation's most prominent universities and their varied
cultural and social offerings lie just an hour or so west of the
Rocky Mount area. If you're this close, take time to visit N.C.
State University (Raleigh), the University of North Carolina (Chapel
Hill), and Duke University (Durham) in what is known as the Research
Triangle.
- The region is also site of the state museums of art and history,
Exploris as well as the famous Morehead Planetarium. The world renowned
North Carolina Symphony also performs from its' home base in Raleigh.The
Alltel Pavilion at Walnut creek is host to world class music and
entertainment.

- South
- Old Glory has never flown higher or more proudly than it does
just 90 miles down I-95 South at Fort Bragg, the nation's largest
military installation and home of the fabled 82nd Airborne, and
new AirborneMuseum.
- East
- Just a short drive from our city limits, you'll find colonial
period homes along the popular Albemarle Tour in the "Tarboro Historic
District." For some of the area's most treasured architecture, visit
the Blount-Bridgers home (circa 1808) or one of the many sites on
the 45 block tour.
- East Carolina University with its burgeoning liberal arts college
and respected medical school is just a 45 minute drive to the southeast.
The University offers some of the region's finest cultural performing
arts from the Messick Theatre Arts Center and innovative fine arts
at the Jenkins Fine Arts Gallery.
- Believe it or not, when you stop in the Rocky Mount area, you're
just a hop, skip and jump from the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. Visit
the "Crystal Coast" at Morehead City or tour historic Beaufort for
a day trip you will surely treasure, and you're just two and a half
hours from the Outer Banks.
